Lustrous-Extent
to which wool reflects light, to produce a sheen
Our lustrous ewe lambs born in 2013
did well over winter. They fully shed this spring. We had 1 1/2 feet of snow
with freezing temperatures for 3 weeks with wind chills that finally sent
our sheep to the barn. Our lustrous ewe lambs slept in the snow as did Pigee
with our other Herd Sires. Ice formed on their coats, faces and ears. No frostbite
or signs of chilling. Their bodies were warm to the touch while my hands were
freezing from the chill in the air. We don't worm our sheep. Our lambs build
resistance in the first year, so I have to assume if they are stressed with
severe weather changes, they will lose some weight. All our sheep are fed
hay over winter with no grain or supplements. They all remained healthy over
winter and are thriving this spring with all the lush green pasture. It's
late July now, the pastures are brown and the sheep are lean and at their
perfect weight for fall.
The photos below are from our lustrous Honey Gen line. I have a ram lamb out of her this year. Gorgeous white coat. I have some lustrous ewes that will be for sale. See photos at bottom of this page.
I have several buyers that produced lustrous
lambs this year, they are out of our lustrous rams sold in 2013.
